| Bartlet’s Farm and Breedt’s Nek Ride Groups: Yellow, red and blue Ratings – Technical : 9/10 (yellow) 10/10 (red and blue) Hills: 9/10 (yellow – 1000m ascent) 10/10 (red and blue – 2000m ascent) Distance : 26km (yellow), 38km (red and blue) Starting From: Bartlet’s Farm – Buffelspoort/Magaliesberg Starting Time: 8h00 for 8h30 Ending Time: The recce group got back to Johannesburg at 15h30 – be prepared to be out there a long time Ride Description: A very, very tough but absolutely awesome, un-miss able ride….. Ride out of Bartlet’s Farm parking and into his private farm where Kranskloof Canopy tours is held. Ride almost to the top of the mountain on the typical Magalies Monster quartz sand and pebbles. Watch out for Kudu, Impala, Wildebeest and Zebra. Have a look down into Ysterhout Kloof as you go past (it will make you come back for the canopy tours). Some sections are baby head rocks and near impossible to ride (some of the recce did). Now descend the mountain via a different route over rocks, steps and all sorts of technical doo-dads – don’t lose concentration for a moment. Bartlet’s loop is about 12km long – only red and blue groups will do that. After Bartlet’s loop we ride down past Mountain Sanctuary and take the long climb up the Breedt’s Nek gravel road, start the descent down the other side and then slip onto the Magalies Monster climb in the opposite direction for a very tough but awesome single track ride down to Mountain Sanctuary. When you get to the bottom your calves will be burning and then you have to contend with the deep sand on the Mountain Sanctuary access road. A bit of tar riding brings you back to Sparkling Waters and then with dead legs, you have to climb back up to Bartlet’s Farm (if you can). Parking at Bartlet’s will cost you R30 for the day (which goes directly to Mr Ronnie Bartlet) and non-members will have to pay JMBC R30 as well. This ride is not for green group or beginner riders nor those who cannot ride technical stuff. Look at the ratings above! The recce group was broken when they got back. However, if you want a challenge, this is it!!!!! Directions: It took us an hour and half from Fourways – it’s about 100km from there so work it out. Give yourself enough time.
