Riversands Farm Feral (30-Aug-2009) PDF Print E-mail
Last weekend's ride was a Feral at Riversands Farm. The Feral ride groups had an awesome time with 39 riders on another warm start - with spring seriously raising its head. Thanks to the ride leaders (James, Gregg and I) and the sweeps (Doug, Steve for while and Ian). Nice tough long ride - with plenty hills - many a leg was complaining by the end. A few too many straight gravel roads for some of your liking but it is hard to join the nice pieces of single track dotted all over Johannesburg without riding some roads. However, how was the downhill from the power station along the great sewerage pipe, the climb up our usual downhill at the Zebra and then Craig's new downhill single track also known as Laura's accidental technical drop off? Blue and red then dived back across the valley toward the Zebra on another well known flowing piece of single track and then climbed back up from the Northern Farm border toward that long gravel road to Laezonia castle garage. Much fun was then had dodging cars on the N14 including bursts of power up some short sharp steep climbs (I know Ian but riding the tar is so boring)! Then we charged along the long single track above Diepsloot and up through the building rubble dumps towards George's Tavern. Red and blue did an extra 4km section out North of George's. Then came the bridle trail - usually swamped in mud in summer - well, it did not let us down this time either. Ian was really worried about his nice new shoes. Then we charged at breaknek speed down into the ICB valley were yellow lost half of their number accompanied by various weak excuses (like hangovers, oh so tired, lunch dates, etc). Sorry for you!!!! - you missed some of the best single tracks of the ride which included a long slog up to Kyalami Equestrian Centre and then down onto the old Spring Classic route on the other side of the river. Yellow returned via the paintball river bridge and blue carried on further onto the famous whoop-de-doos in the area.

Afterwards, Frank had the biggest steak I have ever seen - it took up a whole plate - all the other stuff (pap, vegetables, etc) were on another plate (his wife is away and this was the first meal he had had for a week). Doug had to stay behind and watch him eat it all......
